005 Charmeleon

Day 5! Yeesh, I'm not sure what to make of this one. I love how the flame turned out, which is a bit ironic given that I expected that to be the worst part of the drawing. I had a lot of fun with it, especially adding the highlights afterwards 😇

I royally screwed up the head - I could NOT work out how to get the horn to look right; when I widened it, it just looked like she had a really long head. In the end, I settle for having it look wonky, but reasonably sized. I also couldn't get the serious facial expression right, but I'm okay with that 🙂

I struggled a lot with the arms, but I think they turned out okay. Charmeleon has fairly weird arms anyway. I also really like how the legs turned out - I had a bit of trouble early on with them, but I got them where I wanted them fairly quickly!

I had a lot of fun with the highlights and shadows!! I still haven't figured out how to calculate where they should fall, so right now I'm pretty much just using them to mix up the colours a bit, but I love the end result so I'm not really in a rush to fix that.

I'm still having a lot of fun with this challenge, and I'm happy to see other people enjoying my work. 😁
I wasn't sure how I'd feel going from "never drawing" to "drawing every day", but it's been fantastic so far. Now that I have a bit more time to myself, I'm going to start studying some of the fundamentals, and see if I can apply them to my next works 👩‍🎨
